New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program (NASP)

Skills Tasmania have announced that under the North West Job Ready Generation Package, the New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program (NASP) will be commencing on the 14th March 2020.

Scholarships of up to $2000 each will be available to support apprentices in the North West of Tasmania through the New Apprenticeship Scholarships Pilot.

These scholarships will help local apprentices or trainees with student fees or for associated costs such as books and materials, transport or child care to help them complete their apprenticeship of traineeship.

Apprentices and trainees in the North West that commenced an apprenticeship or traineeship after 1 January 2020 can apply for a one-off payment of $2000 if training full time or $1000 part time to support them undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship in a targeted sector.

All up the pilot will support an estimated 200 young North Western Tasmanians to learn the skills that will lead to a rewarding career and help add to the pipeline of skilled workers that local industries need to grow.

The Scholarships will be targeted in the following sectors: Disability, Aged Care, and Child Care; Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; Transport and Logistics

Apprentice eligibility criteria:

• Must reside in Cradle Coast region
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must enter into a training contract as a new worker (dated from 1st Jan 2020)
• Must undertake an approved apprenticeship/traineeship qualification in one of the approved target industries.
• Part-time training contracts – will receive $1,000 instead of full $2,000.

The funding is intended to support individuals and the payment would go to the eligible individual to use at their discretion.
